I contemplated a long time between several films, and after a long internal debate, here’s my pick for this month – Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995). One of my favourites comedies!
This film is a wild, zany ride that cranks Jim Carrey’s comedic genius to 11! It’s the sequel to Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and this time, it plops our favourite pet detective into the heart of an African jungle, where he’s tasked with recovering a sacred bat to prevent a tribal war.
The jungle setting serves as a vibrant, chaotic playground for Ace’s unhinged antics—think wrestling alligators, dodging rhinos (in a hilariously sweaty scene!), and communing with critters like only Ace can.
Carrey’s physical comedy shines as he navigates the wilderness with absurd confidence, from impersonating animals to delivering iconic one-liners like “Spank you very much!” The plot, involving a shady consul, a tribal princess, and a villainous poacher, is secondary to the jungle hijinks, which include Ace’s spiritual quest at a monastery and his slapstick encounters with wildlife.
