Our theme this time was NOT chosen via the #CaturdayVote as I unfortunately was not able to post the #CaturdayPoll last Saturday. So, I decided to use as our theme the number 2 spot of last month’s poll, which was:

Picking just one comedy from the 80s?? Sigh… Tough task! I love the 80s. I love everything about it – the extravaganza, the colours, the music, the vibe, and yes, the no-nonsense comedy.
Although I cannot call myself a true 'Pythonista’ I have always appreciated the absurd humour of Monty Python’s Flying Circus . The movie I am about to review, has two of the members of this awesome comedy troupe.
In A FISH CALLED WANDA (1988), John Cleese, fresh from Monty Python’s ‘ Ministry of Silly Walks’, trades surreal absurdity for a barrister so repressed he could iron a shirt with his frown; watching him unravel is like seeing Big Ben melt in a heatwave. Jamie Lee Curtis slinks through the film like a panther in Louboutins, wielding seduction the way a safecracker wields a stethoscope: one click and your heart’s in her pocket. Kevin Kline, in an Oscar-winning turn, invents the Nietzsche-quoting idiot savant: part philosopher, part human wrecking ball, all orange juice and rage. And then there’s Michael Palin whose stuttering, animal-loving K-K-K-Ken turns the simple act of saying his own name into a symphony of tragicomic pathos.
The plot twists like a pretzel. The dialogue snaps like a trap. The best scenes? The steamroller, the apologies, and the tank of confused fish.
In short, I love how A Fish Called Wanda sneaks the Monty Python troupe’s wild spirit into a slick heist movie. Cleese and Palin prove chaos and class can live together. At the 61st Academy Awards, A Fish Called Wanda was nominated for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay and Kevin Kline won the Best Supporting Actor award.
